tiny4412 android insufficient storage space, can't use SD card.

Hi all, I have a tiny4412 board, with 4GB eMMC onboard, the android image and partitions take up 3.3GB, which leaves 673MB of internal storage, this get's used up very quickly, I have a 2GB sd card which is recognised by the system but android refuses to use it as external storage, if I check in the storage menu in the settings, it shows 0 space available even though it's got at least 1GB of free space.

Is there any way to fix this?  Or is it something the brilliant friendlyarm Engineers will have to fix?

It seems I made a slight mistake, I apparently have the 8GB eMMC card, android is reporting that there is 5.5GB space on the internal storage but none of it is available :(
